Position Summary Semi‑skilled work involving the inspection, repair and maintenance of City buildings/facilities and their related infrastructure. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform inspections on buildings, park facilities and other structures to determine the functionality of systems; provide Supervisor with recommendations using a pre‑established inspection sheet. Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and installations to building systems including flooring, interior/exterior lighting, roofing, fire suppression, fixed/portable power generators, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, small appliances and plumbing fixtures using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools. Perform minor electrical maintenance such as replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g., wall switches and outlets). Diagnose causes of electrical problems or failures for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair. Perform minor plumbing maintenance such as repair/replacement of sinks, urinals, toilets, drains and faucets. Perform minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g., preparing surfaces and using brushes or rollers to apply paints, stains, varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks, deadbolts, door closers, handles). Inspect City facilities to identify building maintenance needs. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on City buildings, facilities, and equipment. Complete work orders, accident reports, inspection checklists and other documents as assigned. Perform various miscellaneous tasks, including setting up for events, moving furniture and equipment, and replacing flags. May be required to be on twenty‑four‑hour call and/or regularly work various shifts, weekends, and/or holidays as deemed necessary. Respond to emergency situations during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns. Follow City and Departmental safety rules and regulations. Follow safety procedures and utilize personal protection equipment as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Graduated from an accredited high school or have obtained a State of Florida G.E.D. certificate or equivalent. Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license. Be of good moral character. Submit to a post‑offer physical examination and Level II fingerprinting; employment contingent on testing results. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Occupational hazards, environmental regulations and compliance, and safety precautions of the trade. Skilled trades related to building and facilities repair and maintenance. Installation and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Equipment and tools used in the maintenance and repair of public facilities. Computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat. Electronic testing of electrical systems and continuity of circuits using test devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters. Basic troubleshooting of HVAC units, plumbing, lighting systems, fire suppression systems, and roof repairs. Read, interpret and work from specifications, schematics and plans. Work independently and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner. Safely operate hand tools, power tools and mechanical equipment. Follow safety rules and regulations of the Department and the City. Maintain cleanliness of vehicle and site work areas. Exercise independent judgment and initiative without close supervision. Maintain high standards for professional and ethical conduct, a courteous and professional demeanor, and clear communication both orally and in writing. Support the City’s mission, values and goals. Education & Experience High School Diploma/G.E.D. Minimum of three (3) years of specialized experience as a skilled tradesperson in building maintenance and repair (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC or equivalent combination). Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
