Job Description

The Hopper is responsible for assisting the driver with the collection and disposal of residential or commercial waste along designated routes. This position involves physically demanding work, including lifting, loading, and emptying trash containers into sanitation trucks while maintaining safety and efficiency standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Collect residential and commercial trash, recycling, and debris along assigned routes
• Load waste materials into sanitation trucks safely and efficiently
• Ride on the rear or side of sanitation trucks between collection stops
• Operate hydraulic packer controls when necessary
• Ensure trash containers are returned neatly to designated areas
• Maintain awareness of traffic and surrounding hazards to ensure workplace safety
• Assist driver with route navigation and communication
• Clean work areas and assist with vehicle inspections as needed
• Follow company policies, OSHA regulations, and safety procedures
• Provide courteous service to customers and the public

• Ability to lift 25-50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Strong attendance and reliability
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and overtime if needed
• Team-oriented with good communication skills
• Previous sanitation or labor experience preferred but not required

• Continuous standing, walking, lifting, bending, and climbing
• Ability to ride on and off sanitation trucks frequently during routes
• Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods
