Position SummarySacred Heart Schools, Atherton seeks an experienced, collaborative, and mission-driven Safety & Security Manager to lead the School’s safety, security, emergency preparedness, and risk management programs for its Preschool–Grade 12 community. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Safety & Security Manager supports a safe, welcoming, and secure environment that advances the School’s educational mission and reflects the values of the Religious of the Sacred Heart.The role oversees campus safety operations, emergency preparedness, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and event safety planning while partnering closely with students, employees, families, first responders, and community partners.Essential ResponsibilitiesSafety and Security OperationsManage the School’s contracted security services provider, including scheduling coordination, training, performance oversight, and day-to-day supervision of assigned personnel.Maintain a visible and professional campus presence and serve as a trusted resource on safety and security matters.Assess campus safety and security operations and recommend improvements that strengthen preparedness, compliance, and operational effectiveness.Oversee campus access control systems, visitor management protocols, surveillance operations, and related security technologies in partnership with Technology and Operations leadership.Administer vehicle fleet monitoring systems and support compliance with School vehicle safety policies.Emergency Preparedness and ResponseDevelop, implement, and regularly update the School’s Emergency Operations Plan, emergency response procedures, business continuity plans, and crisis recovery strategies.Lead the planning, coordination, and evaluation of emergency preparedness drills, training programs, reunification exercises, and Big 5 emergency response protocols across all school divisions.Serve in a leadership role within the School’s Incident Command System during emergencies and critical incidents, fulfilling Incident Command or other designated response responsibilities as assigned.Oversee the testing, maintenance, and operational readiness of emergency notification systems, life-safety equipment, emergency supplies, and reunification resources.Maintain collaborative partnerships with law enforcement, fire services, emergency management agencies, and other first responders to support preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.Operations and Event SupportPartner with the Operations Department and School divisions to support campus logistics, traffic and parking management, daily operations, and special events, including the development and coordination of safety, security, staffing, and emergency preparedness plans for major campus activities.Community Engagement, Training, and CommunicationServe as the School’s primary resource for safety and security matters, providing timely communication, guidance, and recommendations to stakeholders and School leadership during routine operations and emergency situations.Develop, deliver, and evaluate safety, security, and emergency preparedness training, communications, and awareness initiatives that promote a culture of preparedness and shared responsibility across the School community.Compliance and Risk ManagementAdminister and maintain the School’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), including workplace inspections, hazard mitigation, incident reporting, training, and compliance with Cal/OSHA requirements.Conduct risk assessments and investigations, maintain required records and regulatory reporting, and implement corrective and preventive measures to reduce organizational risk.Collaborate with School leadership, insurance providers, and external partners to support compliance, risk management, loss prevention, and the continuous improvement of safety and security programs, policies, and procedures.QualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in emergency management, criminal justice, public administration, occupational safety, education, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in safety, security, emergency management, law enforcement, military service, school security, or a related field, including supervision of security personnel, contractors, or public safety teams.Experience planning and conducting emergency preparedness drills, trainings, exercises, and reunification activities.Demonstrated proficiency with access control systems, surveillance technologies, visitor management systems, security software, and compliance-related processes.Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies.Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other flexible hours as required to support school events, emergency response, training activities, and operational needs.Ability to respond to campus emergencies within an established response timeframe.Valid California driver’s license and driving record that meets School insurance requirements, with the ability to operate a variety of vehicles.Commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools and professional conduct aligned with the Goals and Criteria.PreferredExperience working in an independent school, K–12 educational setting, higher education institution, or other youth-serving organization.Experience implementing Big 5 emergency response protocols and collaborating with law enforcement, fire services, emergency management agencies, or other public safety partners.Professional certifications in emergency management, school safety, business continuity, occupational safety, FEMA Incident Command System (ICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS), or related disciplines.CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.Experience managing access control systems, visitor management systems, surveillance technologies, or other security-related technologies.Physical RequirementsRegularly sit, stand, walk, hear, speak, and interact with students, parents, employees, visitors, and community partners.Ability to travel frequently, safely, and comfortably throughout a 63-acre campus, including navigating stairs, uneven surfaces, and outdoor areas.Ability to respond promptly to emergencies and move throughout campus as circumstances require.Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds.Regularly use close, distance, peripheral, and color vision.Work at a desk and computer workstation for extended periods.Frequently bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and twist; occasionally climb ladders and perform inspections in a variety of campus environments.Work Environment and Schedule RequirementsWork in both climate-controlled office settings and outdoor environments in weather conditions typical of the San Francisco Peninsula.Work may be performed outside of standard business hours and may require occasional evening, weekend, holiday, and irregular-hour work to support school events, emergency response activities, training exercises, drills, reunification activities, and other operational needs.Must be available to respond to emergencies and critical incidents
