Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Chief Risk Officer (CRO) based in United States.

This is a senior executive leadership role responsible for defining, building, and scaling a global enterprise risk function within a fast-growing digital financial services environment. You will serve as the independent risk authority, shaping the organization’s overall risk posture across financial, operational, regulatory, and technology domains. The role requires a builder mindset, combining strategic vision with hands-on execution to design governance frameworks, risk systems, and control structures from the ground up. You will work closely with executive leadership while maintaining independence, ensuring the company’s growth is balanced with strong risk discipline and regulatory alignment. This position also involves active engagement with regulators and external stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions. It is a rare opportunity to establish a world-class risk function in a high-growth, highly regulated, and globally expanding organization.

Accountabilities:

  • Build and own the end-to-end enterprise risk management framework, including policies, controls, governance structures, and reporting systems.
  • Define and operationalize the organization’s risk appetite framework, aligned with global regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
  • Establish independent risk oversight across financial and non-financial risk domains, ensuring consistent monitoring and escalation processes.
  • Lead engagement with regulators and external stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions, representing the company’s risk posture.
  • Design and implement scalable risk systems, dashboards, and reporting tools to support proactive risk identification and mitigation.
  • Serve as a senior advisor to executive leadership while maintaining independence of the risk function across the organization.
  • Build, scale, and lead a global risk organization, including hiring, team development, and operating model design.
  • Oversee risk governance processes and ensure alignment across Legal, Compliance, Finance, and Security functions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of risk frameworks to support safe growth in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.

Requirements:

  • 15+ years of experience in risk leadership roles within financial services, fintech, or highly regulated industries.
  • Proven experience building or transforming enterprise risk management functions at scale.
  • Deep expertise in risk governance, internal controls, regulatory frameworks, and multi-jurisdictional compliance environments.
  • Strong background across financial and non-financial risk areas, including operational, market, credit, liquidity, and technology risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in high-growth, high-ambiguity environments while balancing innovation and risk discipline.
  • Proven track record of engaging with regulators and external stakeholders in complex regulatory contexts.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and challenge senior leadership while maintaining strong partnerships.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing global teams in complex organizational environments.
  • Strong strategic thinking and execution capability, with experience delivering large-scale transformation programs.

Benefits:

  • Competitive executive compensation package
  • Equity participation aligned with long-term value creation
  • Performance-based incentives tied to organizational impact
  • Unlimited PTO and flexible working arrangements
  • Hybrid or remote-first work options depending on location
  • Comprehensive private healthcare coverage
  • Enhanced parental leave policies
  • Annual learning and development budget for executive growth
  • Home office and remote work support allowances
  • Access to company product benefits and fee-free crypto transactions
  • Regular global offsites, leadership summits, and strategic workshops
  • Opportunity to shape and define the global risk function in a category-defining organization
  • High-impact executive role with direct influence on global regulatory and risk strategy
